Imbolg is the time of greatest darkness, in spite of the astronomical darkness of Yule.
Without the flurry of Yule activity, we are forced to look within to find the light.
Throughout prehistory and into the historical period, humankind has found ways to make use of the dark time to complete indoor projects, to make use of winter's opportunities and to plan what's ahead when the snow melts and we again have the chance to travel.
This time has long been sacred to Brighid (pronounced Breezhe in Gaelic) and she was known across Northern Europe and was sanctified in the the Christian times. People can take the initiative to do some research into Brighid and try to understand why this Great Goddess has had meaning to many regardless of path or pantheon.
In this ritual, we will aim to connect with our own sacred sense during this darkness, and what we have to gain in connectin with this ancient Goddess. |
